TR: Fair Elections, Foundation of a Strong Nation
8/4/2025

Friends, neighbors, fellow Americans! I’m here to talk about something happening far south of our borders, but something that hits right at the heart of what makes this nation great. You may have seen the headlines: Prosecutors in Brazil are accusing former President Bolsonaro of leading a criminal organization to overturn the results of a free and fair election. Now, Brazil might seem distant, but understand this: what happens to democracy anywhere, affects democracy everywhere. Just as a fire in one neighborhood can quickly spread to the whole city, an attack on democratic principles in one nation can embolden those who seek to undermine them in others, including right here at home. Your right to vote, your voice being heard, your government being accountable – these are not guaranteed. They are privileges won through generations of sacrifice and must be fiercely defended.
What's at Stake: More Than Just One Election
Let’s be clear about what’s really at stake here. This isn’t just about one man, or one election. This is about the very foundation upon which civilized society rests: the rule of law, the peaceful transfer of power, and the right of the people to choose their own leaders. When a leader, rejected by the ballot box, seeks to cling to power through conspiracy and subversion, he spits in the face of every citizen who believes in the democratic process. He undermines the trust that binds a nation together, and he invites chaos and instability.
We’ve seen this before, haven't we? From the backroom deals that once plagued our own political system to the insidious influence of powerful interests that try to sway elections with money and manipulation, the fight for fair elections is an ongoing battle. And like any battle, it demands vigilance, courage, and a unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and fair play.
My Position: Unwavering Defense of Democracy
Let me be absolutely clear: I stand unequivocally against any attempt to subvert the will of the people, whether it happens in Brazil, here in America, or anywhere else on this earth. Democracy is not a gift to be taken for granted; it is a responsibility to be cherished and protected. We must hold accountable those who would seek to undermine it, and we must stand in solidarity with those who fight to defend it.
There can be no room for appeasement, no tolerance for excuses, and no compromise with those who would sacrifice the integrity of our elections on the altar of personal ambition. Justice must be served, and the perpetrators of this scheme, wherever they may be, must face the full consequences of their actions.
The Square Deal: Policies to Strengthen Our Republic
But words alone are not enough. We need concrete action to safeguard our democracy and ensure that every citizen has a voice in shaping the future of our nation. That's why the Square Deal will champion the following:
Campaign Finance Reform: We must break the corrupting influence of money in politics. I propose a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and ensure that the voices of ordinary Americans are not drowned out by the deep pockets of wealthy donors and corporations. This means publicly financed elections to reduce the influence of special interests. As I said before, there must be "No man above the law and no man below it."
Voter Protection Act: We must guarantee the right to vote for every eligible citizen. This means ending voter suppression tactics like gerrymandering and restrictive voter ID laws. We will also implement automatic voter registration and make Election Day a national holiday to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in our democracy. It’s not just a privilege, it’s a duty of citizenship.
Independent Oversight of Elections: We must establish an independent, non-partisan commission to oversee our elections and ensure their integrity. This commission will be responsible for setting national standards for election administration, investigating allegations of fraud and misconduct, and providing assistance to state and local election officials. No state, no party can obstruct, impede, or misrepresent the sacred and fair right to vote.
Education for Citizenship: We must invest in civic education to ensure that our citizens are informed and engaged participants in our democracy. This means strengthening civics curricula in our schools, supporting community-based civic engagement programs, and promoting media literacy to combat the spread of misinformation and disinformation. An informed citizenry is a strong citizenry.
A Call to Action: Stand Up for Democracy!
The fight for democracy is not a spectator sport. It requires the active participation of every citizen who believes in the principles of justice, freedom, and equality.
So, I call on you, my fellow Americans, to stand up and be counted! Speak out against any attempt to undermine our democracy, whether it happens here at home or abroad. Demand accountability from those who would betray the public trust. Support candidates who are committed to fair elections and the rule of law. Educate yourselves and others about the importance of civic engagement.
Remember, the future of our democracy depends on us. Let us rise to the occasion and prove that the spirit of 1776 still burns brightly in the hearts of the American people. Let us show the world that we are a nation that believes in the power of the people, by the people, and for the people. Let us build a stronger, more just, and more democratic future for ourselves and for generations to come! It is our duty, and it is a duty we shall not shirk!
