Dear fellow Americans, and particularly to those in Minnesota, we are faced with a tragic incident that has left one of our own, Alex Pretti, wounded. A heavy incident that demands our unswerving attention and utmost scrutiny.
The implicated parties in this unfortunate event are agents from our Customs and Border Protection (CBP), who are now on administrative leave pending further investigation. We must ensure that this investigation is carried out in a thorough and transparent manner to ascertain the truth, and more importantly, to deliver justice. It is a time when our commitment to the Square Deal for the Digital Age platform becomes more relevant than ever. This platform stands firm on its commitment to social justice and police reform.
Our law enforcement agencies are the stalwarts of our society, safeguarding the peace and security that we enjoy. However, this incident brings to light the need for these agencies to be equipped with appropriate training and to be held accountable for their actions. It is only through these pillars of reform that we can ensure the safety and security of our communities.
My heart goes out to the family and community of Alex. It is indeed a difficult time for them, and I want to assure them that we stand with them. We are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that incidents like this do not occur in the future.
Our policy is clear. We aim to implement comprehensive police reform, including improved training and increased transparency. We seek to establish a robust system for accountability in our law enforcement agencies. We promote community safety and social justice as integral aspects of our public policy. And above all, we ensure that all investigations involving law enforcement are thorough and transparent.
As we move forward, we must remember that the path to justice is often long and arduous. But we must not falter. We must press on, committing ourselves to the cause of justice and reform. And we must do so together, as a nation, in solidarity with those who have been wronged.
I call on each and every one of you to stand with us. Stand with us in demanding justice for Alex. Stand with us in demanding reform in our law enforcement agencies. Stand with us in our fight for a safer, more just society.
